This cocktail does not have more than 100 years of history like many other cocktails I post here. Created relatively recently, this cocktail highlights what a good cocktail it. Utilising two kinds of base spirits, a herbal liqueur and a fortified wine it is similar to a Vieux Carré. The cocktail is a bit lighter than the Vieux Carré. What is perhaps a bit weird at the moment is the character of the drink is more towards, autumn flavours. Rye and apple brandy give the cocktail flavours that character. However, the cocktail also uses chartreuse which I associate with summer, however in this case that does not change the flavour profile to be more summer-like. The same is true for the Cocchi. This is not a cocktail that I find to be perfect at this time of the year however in the autumn when the weather tends to be a bit chillier and apples come into season this is a cocktail that is absolutely fantastic.
As a cocktail that you use to go through a bottle of Cocchi, this is an excellent alternative, in comparison to some of the posts I’ve made that were half decent. Since I have never seen the Cocchi in any smaller bottles than 75 cl, I think it is a good idea to test some different cocktails using the Cocchi and present what I believe to be good cocktails. I know some who genuinely enjoy
My Recipe:
- 1.5 oz (4.5 cl) Rye Whiskey
- 1 oz (3 cl) Cocchi Americano
- 0.5 oz (7.5 cl) Calvados
- 0.25 oz (3.45 cl) Green Chartreuse
- 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
Add the ingredients to a mixing glass with ice. Stir to chill and dilute. Strain into a chilled Nick and Nora glass. Garnish with an orange twist.
